Ponderings about the Nursery...

Since I've been feeling baby girl move so much more recently this whole thing is becoming more real. I've enjoyed working on our registry on target's website. And since we know where we will be moving in a month, I have been thinking a lot about how this little girl's room is going to look.

I'd love to recreate this against a purple wall:
the only thing is.... 1. I'm not sure we can paint and 2. I don't want to pay $60 for this.

So! how do we do this guys!? I need suggestions!! I don't want it to look terrible or ghetto or even completely homemade, if that's possible. We might just end up paying for it... but lets see what we can come up with first.

In order to get the wall purple - I've heard of 'pasting' a bed sheet to the wall with water/starch (not sure if that's the right combo of stuff to create the 'glue'). But the vinyl wouldn't stick to it, right? or would it? Anyway... Thanks for your help! I really appreciate any suggestions you may have....

  1. I know in my room growing up we nailed up (small nails) this really thin smooth ply wood (it wasn't ply wood but it was something similar). And I painted it and collages it all I wanted. After I left high school my parents took it down and it was as good as new!

  2. Okay, so here's how you do it. You make templates of the flowers and birds of various sizes and hold them to the wall and paint over them. For the actual tree and branches, you can try one of two things. 1) You can either make a rough sketch and paint over it if you feel comfortable enough with your skills or 2) you could put up an outline using blue painters tape and paint it. Then after removing the blue painters tape, go back and add some roundness to the tree and branches. Oh, and Portia's idea of painting it on smooth ply wood is a good/cheap idea.
Well, that's what I would do. Davin :-)

  3. I know we had a family at Wymount that put wallpaper up in their kitchen. I think they did it with flour anda water...but ask Jessica Loerhmann for sure

  4. Megan, I just found out you're pregnant (I know a little late). But I am so happy for you! I can't even express how wonderful this is! I wish I could stop by and hear the whole story. Congratulations! Good luck with everything! You're going to be the best mom!
